Christian Brothers Academy (N.Y.) standout Ben McCreary scored his fourth goal in double overtime to give CBA a 10-9 win over Westhill (N.Y.) in the Section V Class D title game. McCreary is the Northeast Player of the Week.


The Epoch/US Lacrosse Players of the Week are named each Tuesday to recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’  and girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Make it Epoch

Northeast

Ben McCreary, Christian Brothers Academy (N.Y.)

McCreary, a senior, scored with seven seconds left in the second overtime to give CBA a 10-9 win over Westhill (N.Y.) in the Section V Class D title game. He finished with four goals and one assist as the Brothers claimed their first sectional title in 10 years. McCreary has 63 goals and 40 assists this season.

Mid-Atlantic

Trevor Patschorke, Severna Park (Md.)

The attackman capped a high-scoring senior season with three goals in Thursday’s Maryland 4A/3A championship win over Churchill (Md.). The Falcons trailed most of the way but rallied back for a 7-6 victory thanks to a goal by Jack Thomas with three second left in regulation. Patschorke did his part in the comeback by scoring twice in the fourth quarter. The UMBC recruit totaled 20 goals in five playoff wins.

Midwest

Skylar Wahlund, Olentangy Liberty (Ohio)

The junior goalie helped lead Olentangy Liberty to the state semifinals after stopping 18 shots in a 13-6 win over Olentangy. HIs performance in the regional finals followed a 10-save performance against Delaware Hayes in Liberty’s 16-4 win Wednesday. Wahlund is verbally committed to Ohio State.

West

William Cespedes, Skyline (Wash.)

The senior led the Spartans to the Class 4A state title last week, scoring a combined five goals in the final four, where scoring was at a premium. Cespedes had a game-high three goals in a 9-6 win over Woodinville (Wash.) in the semifinals, then added two more in a 9-7 win over Eastlake (Wash.) in the final.
