USA Lacrosse High School Girls' Players of the Week

Gabbi Koury stuffed the stat sheet to help Owen J. Roberts to a 14-7 win over Penncrest in the District 1 AAA title game.

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the three active regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest — outlined in our high school coverage.

The South Region and West Region have completed play for the season.

Caitlyn Dorman, Massapequa (N.Y.)

Caitlyn Dorman made sure history didn’t repeat itself. For a second straight year, Northport (N.Y.) rallied to tie late in the fourth quarter and send the Long Island Class A championship game to overtime. A year ago, the Tigers won it there, but on Sunday at Adelphi University, Dorman flipped the script. The senior attacker scored on her 8-meter attempt with 18.8 seconds left in OT to lift the Chiefs to a 9-8 victory and a first-ever Long Island title. It came after back-to-back defeats to Northport in the same game. It was Dorman’s lone goal of the game.

“I really wasn’t freaking out,” Dorman told Newsday. “Once overtime hit, there was something in my soul that I knew that we got this. Nothing was going to stop us and nothing did.”

Also notable: Michaela Fay, Suffern (N.Y.); Kyle Finnell, Garden City (N.Y.); MK Lescault, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (N.Y.); Shannon Nolan, John Jay-Cross River (N.Y.); Addison Pattillo, Wilton (Conn.)

Gabbi Koury, Owen J. Roberts (Pa.)

Gabbi Koury hadn’t been born the last time that Owen J. Roberts won a district championship. The senior midfielder stuffed the stat sheet to help the Wildcats to a 14-7 win over Penncrest in the District 1 AAA title game. Owen J. Roberts hadn’t won a district title since they were a AA school in 2002. They had lost in the finals in 2016. Koury helped ensure that the title drought ended with a hat trick in the first half of the game. She finished with an assist as well, won 10 draw controls, scooped up nine ground balls and caused four turnovers. The Florida commit earlier this year surpassed 400 career points. She and Syracuse-bound Alexa Vogelman, who had five goals and five draws in the district title game, have been one of the most potent 1-2 punches in all of the Mid-Atlantic Region. Owen J. Roberts, which also won the Pioneer Athletic Conference crown, is 23-1 heading into the state tournament where it hopes to add a third championship this season.

Also notable: Katie Bianco, Moorestown (N.J.); Tessa Caputo, Princeton Day School (N.J.); Anna Givens, Twin Valley (Pa.); Bella Goodwin, Pingry (N.J.); Alivian Parmer, Manheim Township (Pa.); Ava Rossi, Mount St. Joseph (Pa.); Alexa Vogelman, Owen J. Roberts (Pa.)

Kampbell Stone, Upper Arlington (Ohio)

A year ago, the Golden Bears won their first 22 games before falling in the state title match to New Albany (Ohio). Kampbell Stone ensured there was no repeat heartbreak in this year’s state championship game against Olentangy Liberty (Ohio), getting Upper Arlington off to a strong start by scoring four of its first five goals. The Ohio State commit ultimately scored six goals for the Golden Bears and also played a big role in their winning 19 of 26 draws.

Also notable: Gabby Bouman, Lakeville South (Minn.); Caitlin Carter, Guerin Catholic (Ind.); Eileen Dooley, Loyola Academy (Ill.); Sivanna O’Brien, Lakeville South (Minn.); Lilly Stelzer, Upper Arlington (Ohio)
