Izzy Scane is the recipient of the 2023 Tewaaraton Award in women’s lacrosse, announced Thursday evening in Washington, D.C.
Scane produced 99 goals and 35 assists for Northwestern, which was the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament and captured its first NCAA title since 2012 by beating Boston College 18-6 last Sunday.
“It’s amazing. I just love my team,” Scane told Sheehan Stanwick Burch. “They’re the best people in the world. This is a team award more than this is an individual one.”
Northwestern teammate Erin Coykendall, Meaghan Tyrrell (Syracuse), Isabella Peterson (James Madison) and Jenn Medjid (Boston College) were the other finalists.
After missing the entire 2022 season with an ACL injury, Scane — a graduate student — returned better than ever this spring. She set a career high with 99 goals and set a new program single-season record in the process. In the championship game, she also surpassed Selena Lasota for the most goals in Northwestern history.
A factor on more than just offense, Scane was a catalyst for Northwestern’s pesky ride that flummoxed both Denver and Boston College during Championship Weekend.
With another year of eligibility, Scane — a Clarkston, Mich., product — will return to Northwestern in 2024 in hopes of repeating as NCAA champions.
