The Vermont men’s lacrosse team put in some serious overtime in the first week of the season — as did its cadre of Canadian contributors.

Junior attackman Cam Milligan of Peterborough, Ontario, netted a combined 13 points and set up both game-winners in a pair of OT wins for the Catamounts to earn the first Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honor of 2017.

Milligan, who spent one injury-shortened season at Towson before transferring to Vermont, had four goals and four assists in Vermont’s 13-12 victory at Furman last Thursday. He set up freshman attackman Ben French, a Toronto native, for the game-winning goal in overtime.

Two days later, Milligan scored three goals and added two assists, finding junior midfielder Matt Gudas in double overtime to seal a 13-12 win at Mercer.

The Catamounts, who boast nine players from north of the border, erased five-goal deficits in each game to emerge 2-0 in the first two games under new head coach Chris Feifs, the former North Carolina defensive coordinator.
