Marie McCool had impeccable timing Saturday, helping North Carolina thwart off upset-minded Louisville with a career-high seven goals in the Tar Heels’ 15-11 victory, earning Epoch/US Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

McCool, who added an assist to match her career high of eight points, scored three straight goals to bring North Carolina back from a 7-3 deficit, then poured in four goals during the Tar Heels’ defining six-goal run in the second half after they trailed 8-7.

McCool, one of the young guns on the U.S. women’s World Cup team that will compete this summer in England, leads North Carolina with 35 goals in 13 games and ranks third on the team with 45 points. She also leads the Tar Heels with 14 caused turnovers.
